Test File Downloads
To download any of these files, first decide where you want to place your files.
You can make a new folder, or download to an existing folder. All of the files WILL fit
on a 3 1/2" floppy disk in your A: drive if you prefer. After downloading, you may have to
UNZIP the files by clicking on them (they are self-extracting if you don't have your file
extraction option turned on during the download).

QUICK TUTORIAL

Downloading

To download, first determine where you wish to download - it could be a folder on your hard drive, or a floppy in your A: drive (all of the files will fit on a floppy).

Select the file required by pressing the GOLD button. If you are selecting test files, you MUST have both Part One and Part Two for the file to work.

Selecting and Printing Questions

Once you have downloaded, now go to the folder or file to which you downloaded. Find the file marked BT.EXE, and start this file. This is a DOS based program, but will work in Windows 3.1, 95 and 98. the following instructions assume you have changed to your download location.

Loading and Printing A Test

Find the folder where you downloaded - click on [BT] - (or at the DOS level type in BT [ENTER]) - press [esc] - [F5] - Select File - [ENTER] - choose the file you want to use using arrow keys. For example, highlight [BRAKES.BTD], press [ENTER]. You now have a list of all Brake questions and the number of available questions. Select/unselect questions by using the [*] key. Once you have selected, press [F7] to print. [F7] - highlight [Print Test] and [ENTER]. Change Defaults [Y]. You can now select and enter the number of copies, versions etc. To have the questions printed out in the selected order, use "Shuffle Answers". I do this when I finish entering new questions and then keep them in a binder so I can preselect questions before using the program. When selection is done press [F10]. Type in Test ID name [ENTER] and the test will immediately print.

Creating a New Test File

[F5] - Create File [New file name] - [ENTER] [Create New Data File] - [Y] You now see [This file is empty] highlighted. Press [F10]. Type in the question. [TAB] Now type in CORRECT answer. If you want to fix it's position (for example: D-All of the above) press [F4] before [TAB] to the next distractor. When completed, press [F10]. You can change the level (ie. difficulty or class level rating) or place references (I don't bother to). Press [F10]. The question is now complete. Press [F10] to enter a new question, and so on.

Edit a Question

Highlight the question. Press [ENTER]. Make changes as you would do with any text file. Press [F10] when done. You will probably find some typos in my questions so you can easily fix them with this procedure.

Creating a New Test by Combining Items From Other Tests

[F5] - create a new file with a new name. [F5] - select the first file you want to export from. Mark [*] the items you want to export. [F6] - show list. [F8] - export to the file you created. CAUTION - it will ask you if want to delete items from your original file!

You now have a new test.

***CAUTION*** - always exit the program using the [esc] command and following on screen info. If you just shut down without doing this it can really screw up your files! (Been there - done that.)
